Where To Go When You Need Help

“Where To Go If You Need Help” was initially produced in the mid-1990s with the assistance of the Harrisburg Center for Peace and Justice and Tri-County Opportunities Industrialization Center (“OIC”). The objective of this “temporary project” was to provide a pocket-sized guide to nonprofit organizations, aging and social service agencies, and religious bodies in a five-county area including Cumberland, Dauphin, Lebanon, Perry, and York Counties. Distribution and production was underwritten by Tri-County OIC through 2000.

Beginning in 2005, EFMR Monitoring distributed and produced the booklet. The cost for production was underwritten by EFMR based on a grant from Exelon Corporation from 2008-2013. During this period, the chief editor and researcher was Tom Dochat, an award-winning journalist. EFMR partnered with Penn State’s Milton S. Hershey Medical Center from 2013 to 2018. Dauphin County’s Human Services Office was a cosponsor from 2016-2018.

The booklet is currently a collaborative project between EFMR Monitoring and Rock the Capital. The current editor and researcher is Patricia Smith.

Since its inception in the mid-1990s, over three hundred thousand (300,000!) copies have been distributed free of charge. The booklet is no longer available in printed format due to funding constraints. “Where To Go If You Need Help” is now available in digital format by visiting the EFMR and Rock the Capital web sites.
