We know what happened to the Edmund Fitzgerald. We now know what happened in the Pennsylvania Supreme Court in March in the Kathleen Kane case. We generally know what will happen to the Kathleen Kane.
Politically, it would be miraculous if she staged a comeback. In the meantime, things are a wreck for her because of her decisions and personal life. She will need some very good luck.
Below is sung to the tune of the Edmund Fitzgerald by Gordon Lightfoot
The Wreck of the Kathleen Kane
The legend lives on from the politicians on down
of the city on the river they call Susquehanna.
Harrisburg it is said makes people politically dead
when early November turns gloomy.
With a load of good will and a good vote total
the Kathleen Kane was not empty.
Although, good and true, she was a bone to be chewed
when the storms for the next election came early.
The Kane was the pride of the democratic side
coming down from the courts in Scranton.
As vote totals go, she got more than most
backed by a crew that included a Clinton.
Starting the first term, with a couple of decisions firm
she was fully loaded to go forward.
Legislative prosecutions undone, was the start of a setting sun,
on the Kathleen Kane’s promising future.
To keep Kane’s path of sail, so the mission wouldn’t fail,
Kane unloaded a cargo of naked emailings.
But later in the term, Kane’s bell was rung,
could it be the republican wind she be feelin?
The wind from the jury leaks made a tattle tale sound
and waves were breaking o’er her railings.
And the democrats all knew as she said so too,
twas the witch of republicans come stealin.
It dawned on her late and breakfast had to wait,
when the car she was in came a crashin.
When later it came, the grand jury’s disdain,
in the force of a hurricane of charges.
When suppertime came she went on the home deck
sayin first mate I can no longer feed ya.
After years of marriage caved in, she said
fella its not been good to know ya.
She wired in to the attorneys and democratic kin
that the good ship Kane was in peril.
And later that night after some light beers went out of sight,
came the wreck of the Kathleen Kane
In a nasty old Harrisburg hall they legally prayed
in the Supreme Court marble mansion.
The court made up its mind and the bell will chime numerous times
for the charges against the Kathleen Kane.
The Kane legend will not live on from Scranton on down
to the city on the Susquehanna.
Harrisburg it is said has given her up as politically dead;
for Kathleen Kane the gales of November 2016 came early.
